Who is Jesus and why is His life so influential 2000 years after His death?
Jesus was so much more than a good man or a moral teacher. He is God, and He lived on Earth to point us to the Father.
The early Church were first called Christians not just because of what they believed, but because of how that belief would shape and change their lives. The first step is to accept Christ in our lives and the gift of salvation which Jesus offers us by His sacrifice on the cross. Our next step is to have a relationship with Jesus and allow Him to transform our lives.
Accepting personally what Jesus has done for us and believing in Him and His resurrection is what is referred to as a person’s conversion. The Bible teaches us that we are saved by Grace and that this is a gift of God (Ephesians 2:8-9“8 God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”). In other words, there is nothing we can do to earn it, buy it or deserve it; this is a gift all of God’s doing . As we believe in our heart and confess Him as the Lord Jesus Christ, we become saved. The bible describes being saved as being born again (John 3:3). This is the most significant decision we will make in our whole life.
Having made the decision to receive Christ into our lives, it’s now about learning to follow the teachings of Jesus and build a deepening relationship with Him. This is about learning what Jesus said in the scripture and allowing His words to shape the way we think and build our lives. Following Christ is a daily commitment and is a journey of discovering the reality of the Kingdom of God in our lives.
Water baptism is a significant step in our commitment to Jesus. It is a public acknowledgement of our belief in Christ and our commitment to be identified as His follower. Baptism is celebrated and a defining moment in our walk with God. Whenever a person commits their lives to Christ, this is the next step that we are instructed to do. This is a great moment and celebration for our family and friends to be involved in as it honours God and brings great testament to your commitment to following Jesus. We hold classes that teach and explain the significant of Baptism in our lives as believers.
As a follower of Jesus we are called and sent to make a difference in our world. This is best done as we live our lives on the mission of God, i.e. sharing God’s message and telling others about the difference Jesus has made in our own lives.
